Just a friendly reminder that there's still time to bid on hundreds of amazing items at the Purple Dove Auction. There's fanfic, 2-D art, 3-D art, edible goodies, you name it! All proceeds go to organizations that support LGBT youth, so it's a win-win -- you get a gift, and the charities get money to help kids in need. My auction is here:

You can bid on a 2,500+ word fic written by yours truly *or* buy a 500-word drabble, tailored to your specifications, in exchange for a small donation to the Trevor Project, a suicide hotline for teens and children. What are you still doing here? Get thee to the auction!

Also, I found this video today, which is already stirring up controversy. Not sure I agree with the method (I detest it when hate groups use children to get their POV across, so it's hard for me to condone anti-hate groups doing the same), but I love the spirit behind the message, and obviously, it's for a very good cause.

Man, they could have gotten the same message across WITHOUT having kids say FUCK FUCK FUCK. As a mom, that bothers me and actually takes away from the message. I didn't feel inspired to help anyone, I felt pissed off that they got these little kids to say words like FUCK and FAG. :(

Yeah, I don't really know where to put that in my head. I watched their video on gay marriage, though, and I got the impression that the kids in these videos are all children of gay parents -- which, I suppose, gives them the right to tell haters to fuck off. IDK. As a mom, it still bothers me, though.

I didn't like the kids saying fuck but I think its ok to use kids in these videos because its about issues that are going to affect them as they get older, and sometimes they only way to bring home to people like those who hate gay people is to show them that homosexuals are real people, and showing them kids that might grow up into the queers they hate can really help with that.

I agree that shocking people can sometimes change their minds about things. I'm not sure this video is going to win any converts, though. I'm afraid the message the haters will take away is that gay people make bad parents who raise foulmouthed, angry kids.

That said, I understand 100% where these kids are coming from. And I think a foulmouthed rant directed at people who hate gays is absolutely appropriate. Haters are the reason so many LGBT kids kill themselves, and the responsibility for their deaths should be laid at their feet.

Actually, you know a good deal of the gay haters are super!Christians, and they hate gays because they think it's an abomination, and videos like this just give them more reasons to hate them. :( What they will think is "The evil gays teach kids to curse!" So, in my opinion the video gives those nutters more ammo.

Oh yeah I know. I didn't mean the actual content of the video was a good idea, it comes across more as a cathartic piece for the people involved rather than a useful piece that will change hearts and minds. I only meant I think it is OK to use kids who will be affected by the issues to try and bring home the humanity of the people being harmed to those doing the harm.

In fairness, I have a number of friends and family members who qualify as super!Christians who are extremely loving and open-minded. Let's take care not to stereotype.

Yeah I didn't word that right :) I couldn't think of something to call the people who THINK they are doing the work of God by spreading hate. Hypo!Christians maybe? hahahaha And for the record I'm a Christian, and agree that everyone deserves to be loved and treated how we want to be treated :) So I meant no disrespect.

Sadly, homophobes can found in every religion, as can people who twist religious teachings to fan the flames of hate. I have a lot of hope for the younger generation, though. I think today's conservative religious youth have a lot to teach their elders about love and tolerance.
